Quiet Cottage on the Hill
SOUTHFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS
Atop a rolling hill, among mature oak trees on a private 100-acre property, is our jewel-box guest home—a classic shingle cottage, inspired by coastal New England’s simplicity and Berkshire farmhouse heritage. Thoughtfully designed to let natural light filter in, creating an atmosphere that’s warm and cozy in the fall and winter, airy and cool in the spring and summer.
The cottage has 3 en-suite bedrooms, plus a ground floor bedroom with a separate spa bathroom, home gym and lounge area with media screen. A chefs-kitchen and generous farm table that comfortably seats 10 are the heart of the main floor living area. There’s a Regency gas fireplace with reading chairs and game table on one side of the room, with a comfortable sofa and chairs on the far end. A large media screen was purposefully hung a wall that does not face into the room. It’s there to enjoy movie nights and must-see live sports, but not consume the space. We invite guest to unwind with their favorite music—Sonos home audio is available inside and out.
The Cottage is surrounded by miles of private hiking trails, open meadows, and streams that meander over ancient rock formations. The melodic sounds of Pentatonic scale windchimes hung 60ft in the air can be heard on breezy days and evenings from the private patio with outdoor lounging, dining and grilling. Gathering around the patio fire pit is perfect year-round for sharing stories while roasting s’mores. Wonder down the hill with a camp blanket for star-gazing into an ink-black sky that’s never touched by city lights.
The property has high-speed wifi. We know how important this can be, especially during certain parts of the day. The Cottage also has a master wifi switch, in the event you would like to take a collective break. This does not mean you are not reachable, as you would still have cell signal, but it’s an amenity we have come to appreciate ourselves from time to time.
While the property is shared with a main house, the cottage sits apart at the top of the drive with its own dedicated parking for everyone in your group. We are a dog family. Pets are welcome, and while we may ask for a pet introduction, there is amble room for all our furry friends to enjoy the wide-open spaces of this special land.
